What are the symptoms of a broken oil pressure regulating valve?
If an oil pressure regulating valve breaks, the car may experience flameout on the road, and the oil pressure may become too high. Possible consequences of excessive oil pressure include too high mixture concentration, black smoke from the exhaust pipe, and insufficient power that in turn leads to too low fuel pressure and higher fuel consumption. Hence, such failure should be dealt with in time.
Methods for examining the pressure in the fuel system:
1. Depressurization:
Before checking the pressure of the fuel system, depressurization is necessary. To achieve this, first take down the fuel pump fuse, relay, or fuel pump plug, and then start the engine. After automatic flameout of the engine, restart it, and remove the negative pole of the battery.
2. Installation of a fuel pressure gauge:
Connect the fuel pressure gauge with the fuel pipe in series, and test the pressure of the fuel system. Before removing the fuel pipe, put a towel or a piece of cotton cloth under the pipe to prevent the fuel from spilling to the ground. Next, install the fuel pressure gauge on the pressure gauge adapter. Finally, connect the fuel pressure gauge to the pressure tap of the car.
3. Fuel pressure check:
Determine if the fuel system pressure is in normal range by mainly measuring static fuel pressure, idle fuel pressure, maximum fuel pressure, and residual fuel pressure. A too high or too low pressure in the fuel system will impair performance of the car. In the case of too high oil pressure, remember to check if the vacuum pipe on top of the pressure regulator has loosened or cracked, or if the oil return pipe of the oil pressure regulator has been blocked.
