How to repair a failed horizontal headlight adjustment system?
The horizontal beam adjustment system on a car enables manual or automatic adjustment of the height of headlight beams depending on number of passengers, loading conditions, and road conditions, thus preventing the headlights from disturbing other road users. If the horizontal headlight adjustment system fails, it should be repaired as follows:
1. Change the switch for manual adjustment of headlight height: This is not a problem for vehicles equipped with automatic headlights. In the manual headlight height adjustment system, slide rheostats are used to control the voltage of the motor for headlight adjustment. The switch for manual adjustment of headlight height typically provides four positions: original gear, first gear, second Gear, and third gear. If the headlights fail to response to gear switching by the driver, it is very likely that the switch has broken.
2. Change the headlight height adjustment motor: The headlight beams are kept horizontal by means of height adjustment, which is realized with a motor. This motor is installed behind the headlight assembly, and often works in a harsh environment. Besides, on vehicles with automatic headlight height adjustment function, this motor needs to remain in standby mode before operation, and is frequently started. Due to these unfavorable factors, the motor is a part prone to failure in the headlight height adjustment system.
3. Change a malfunctioned sensor in the automatic headlight height adjustment system: This repair is only required for cars with an automatic headlight system. The automatic height adjustment system on such cars works on the following principle: The vehicle driving state information is collected by various sensors, and the computer in the automatic headlight system analyzes the information from the sensors and sends corresponding operation instructions to the headlight adjustment motor. If a relevant sensor fails, the whole system will become non-operable.
