Common symptoms of a failed electronic water pump:

  1. Engine overheating:

A failure of the electronic water pump can prevent effective circulation of coolant, resulting in an increase in engine temperature and possibly triggering a high temperature alarm.

2. Dashboard warning:

A failure of the electronic water pump can cause the coolant over-temperature indicator or the water pump failure indicator on the dashboard to light up.

3. Coolant leakage:

A failure of the electronic water pump can cause water leakage near the water pump of the engine, leading to shortage of coolant and consequently high water temperature and other symptoms.

Possible causes of failures of an electronic water pump:

1. Electrical issues

Power supply malfunction: Unstable battery voltage or loose/broken wire may prevent the electronic water pump from starting normally.

Control module malfunction: The control unit (ECU) of the water pump has failed, and is unable to send start signals correctly.

Overload protection: When the water pump is overloaded, the self-protection system will automatically cut off the power supply.

2. Mechanical failure

Internal wear: The components in the water pump (such as impellers and bearings) can wear severely after prolonged use and cause less efficient fluid pumping.

Jamming: The components in the water pump may be jammed by dirt, sediment, or foreign objects, thus interfering with normal operation.

Shaft damage: Mechanical impact or use under overloaded conditions may cause the water pump shaft to bend or break.

3. Fluid issues

Low-quality coolant: Unsuitable or inferior coolant may lead to internal corrosion or blockage of the pump body.

Bubbles: If bubbles are present in the system, the electronic water pump may be unable to draw and push the coolant normally.

4. Abnormal temperature

Overheating: Operation in an environment with excessive temperature for long can cause the motor of the electronic water pump to overheat and damage internal components.

Insufficient cooling: Unsmooth flow or insufficient quantity of coolant can reduce heat dissipation of the pump.

5. Sealing failure

Aging of seals: Aging of seals or gaskets can result in coolant leakage and make the water pump less efficient.

Leakage at connections: Poor sealing at connections can lead to fluid leakage.

6. Installation and maintenance issues

Incorrect installation: Incorrect installation position or improper fixing can lead to unstable operation and abnormal vibration.

Insufficient regular maintenance: Lack of regular inspection and maintenance may lead to neglection of early symptoms of failures.

7. Software issues

Control software defect: An error in the control program of the electronic water pump may prevent its normal operation.

vika STO electronic water pump

Improvements adopted by vika STO electronic water pump:

1. The control module of vika STO electronic water pump uses integrated IPM chips for control, improving the overall response efficiency by 20%.

2. The stator motor of vika STO electronic water pump is based on a slotless design, featuring high torque, small fluctuations, smooth operation, and 20% noise reduction.

3. The rotor of vika STO electronic water pump is small in volume. The material of the stator shell of the motor has been changed to stainless steel to prevent cracking. A 4-pole magnet structure is used to generate more uniform magnetic force, with a 5% increase in demagnetization resistance ability.
